Christmas Message by Clarissa Grill |
Just a short note this month to wish all of you a very blessed Christmas and New Year. As we approach the birth of Christ, I pray that our hearts and homes will be filled with love and peace. Below are some wonderful spiritual 2010 resolutions I came across during some Advent reading that I want to share with you.
Live Simply, Love Generously, Serve Faithfully, Speak Truthfully, Pray Daily, Leave everything else to GOD.
May 2010 provide numerous opportunities for all of us to work together to accomplish our Serra mission. Let’s start thinking and praying about news ways to serve our club in 2010. Consider serving on the board or on a new committee, chairing a special event, assisting the Vocation Office on one of their projects.
I want to end by thanking you for everything you’ve done and continue to do for our church through Serra. God Bless. |

Merry Christmas by Fr. Jim |
"Tis the season to be ....."
Thirty years ago my friend, Father Louie Gelhaus, and I drove to the west coast and camped out each night. Camping in Yellowstone National Park is memorable. As we drove around the park in the early morning, I entered a small parking lot, which indicated a waterfall was near. We walked the path at the foot of some mountain, and eventually saw the most striking and majestic water I ever viewed. There was a little boy there with his father. The boy's mouth was open in wonder and awe as he looked up at the waterfall. His dad was evidently in a hurry and I heard him say: "Come on, son, we gotta get going." That did not register with the boy at all. And finally the father grabs the boy's hand and leads him away...away from his revere, away from his delightful sense of wonder and awe. I felt sorry for the boy.
"The root of religion" says RabbiHerschel, "is wonder and amazement." From wonder and amazement flowers prayer and adoration of God. Tis the season to be full of wonder and awe. Advent/Christmas is the season to ponder in wonder and awe the copious love God has for us in becoming one of us. As St Paul says: He (Jesus) emptied Himself of His Godhead and became one of us. God became human. And He is still human...for us people and for our salvation. What do I have to let go of to enter into a delightful period of wonder and awe? Do we become so wrapped up in ourselves and our doings that we fail to apppreciate in wonder and awe the Reason for the Season...God becoming one of us. Tis the season to be filled with wonder and awe at the Incarnate mystery of our God.
Happy Holy Days of Christmas.

Project Andrew by Madonna Davis |
I would just like to let everyone know that several of us volunteered for the "Project Andrew," Friday, Dec 11, at St. Theresa's Parish Hall. Although I didn't really do much, the time spent was very rewarding. I felt it was very special to be able to play a minor part in that evening. "Project Andrew" introduces young men to the priesthood. The Bishop, Fr. Rocha, Keith Jiron, several parish priests, and about 20 to 25 (?) young men were in attendance. We served pizza, salad and coke. The Bischofs and Linda and Greg Nelson also volunteered.
